It's April Fools Day and it seems Google just couldn't resist. If you use the major search engine today, you will notice the iconic multi-colored logo has changed to Topeka. But it doesn't end there. Google has issued a press release stating that they changed their name in response to the recent Kansas City name change. Way to go!! What a great way to start the year with a smile!
April 1st has been a day of fun and pranks for hundreds of years, stemming from the change to the Gregorian calendar. The previous calendar celebrated New Years on April 1st instead of the 1st of January. Communication then took years; unlike today, when a name change hits world news before the first cup of coffee. Eventually, people who were behind the times or refused to go with the flow were called April fools, ridiculed, and made the butt of practical jokes. Thus the start of the April Fools day we know and love today.
Everyone have a good April Fools. And watch yourself, because it seems everyone is getting into the act today! ;-)
