Microsoft has launched it’s new search today. Bing is being touted as a decision engine rather than a search engine. As Microsoft has lagged in the number three position they have done a relaunch and revamp of their system. All the old search engines associated with Microsoft now redirect to BING.com. The developers are saying it’s a whole new experience with more organization and better features than the competition. Will this consolidation have an effect on Google and Yahoo?
Microsoft has introduced new features into this new engine.
Preview- that gives searchers a glimpse of a site before a click. Well designed sites will be overjoyed as users find their pages with less time and hassle. And video preview- little clips of the video mean you don’t have to wait for the video to load to find out it wasn’t what you were looking for.
Instant Answers- which gives information on the search page. No more clicking around to find a conversion table just type the question into the search box and poof. This is great for movies and weather.
and many many more
I have tried out the new system and I do like the preview features and the layout is better that their previous search (if not familiar). They have also introduced a new shopping section pushing “cash back” I don’t see any real difference in the other shopping sections on the web, although it is a good feature to include if you want to keep your audience. The quick answer feature looks promising and they have kept all their data from previous engines so as a developer I’m happy.
I look forward to the new features coming down the line this summer and hope to maximize the new structure and services.
